Both “livres” contain altogether 48 unnumbered pieces divided in 4 “parties” consisting of 6 Toccatas, 6 Fantasias (1649) or Ricercares (1656), 6 Canzons (1649) or Capricci (1656) and each “livre” ends with a “partie” of 6 Suites (the French terms are used by Froberger in the autographs).
